On examination of Baxter, he was found to be depressed. Constant profuse watery foul smelling diarrhea was seen. Baxter had a heart rate of 60 beats/min. His respiratory rate is 50 bpm. Tacky Pink Mucous membrane with CRT< 3seconds was found. Baxter had a temperature of 37.8 degrees. Rapid, superficial and slippery pulse was palpated and the tongue is pale lavender in colour with thin white coating. On auscultation of the abdomen, lots of gurgling gastrointestinal sounds with a fluid nature was listened. After the physical examination, Baxter was found to have tachycardia, tachypnoea, hypermotility of the gastrointestinal tract, depression, pyrexia and profuse, projectile diarrhoea.

PEPPI, A GERIATRIC CANINE

Peppi, a geriatric canine was presented to our Animal Surgery with signs of increased appetite, polydipsia, weight gain, weakness in hind limbs and thirst. A positive ACTH test was performed by another veterinarian in 2006 but no follow up and treatment were prescribed then for unknown reasons. A full work out of this case was carried out and Peppi was finally diagnosed with Cushing disease. Interestingly, the owner declined all forms of conventional treatment for this disease and opted for traditional Chinese herbal medicine using Si Miao San and diet change to treat this disease.
